This young cyclist’s attention was caught by the action on court.
Soon she was joined by parents and a sibling.
Finally there were five of them. The group turned out to be a Danish family, visiting Vancouver, and having a day of pedaling around the Park.
Old guys, Kimoff and Nierfeld, had their moments, Thursday, but went down to twenty something four seeds, Carl Ho and Graeme Kassautzski, 6-2, 6-1.
In the Open Draws, Henry Choi, first seed in the Men’s Singles, has returned from Mississauga, where he was ousted from that ATP Challenger tournament in a three set first round loss, to claim his spot as favourite in our community event in the park. Henry has only lost a combined total of two games in his first two matches. Choi looks pretty good in this field, and I’ll be surprised not to see him in the final once again. Dark horse, Trevor Dobson, from Redondo Beach, CA., plays Henry today. That might be interesting. On the other side of the draw, the number two seed, hard server, George Jecminek, meets Graeme Kassautzki, who is looking good, in what should be a closely contested match. The other men’s singles quarterfinals will be Jeremy Salvo vs David Chu, and Nick Coutts vs Geoffrey Hernandez.
This park-goer has not been watching the Women’s Open Singles, and can only report that the top five seeds are still in it. Quarterfinals pit Monica Neveklovska (1 seed) vs Saroop Dhalt (unseeded), Tracy Dong (3 seed) vs Alexis Prokopuik (unseeded) Katerina Boiko (5 seed) vs Vivian Tsui (4 seed) and Anna Miquel (2 seed) vs Stacey Fung (unseeded).
These singles matches are all scheduled for early afternoon in the park, beginning at 2:00 pm. Doubles and Mixed Doubles quarterfinals later on, beginning at 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm respectively. Boys and Girls Challenger doubles finals beginning a 2:00 pm, and Wheelchair event quarterfinals on this afternoon as well.
