Bye bye, 80th Stanley Park Open

Well, Nick Coutts and Monica Neveklovska did not WIN all the finals they were in, but nearly. Coutts went down to the remarkable athleticism and racquet skills of Henry Choi, in Men’s Singles, and Neveklovska fell to the superior fire power of young Katerina Boiko, in the Women’s Singles. But each of them won their doubles and together took the mixed. Great stuff! See the results of all the Open finals below:

Women’s Open Singles: Katerina Boiko d. Monica Neveklovska,  5-7, 6-4, 7-5.

Men’s Open Singles: Henry Choi d. Nick Coutts (Victoria, BC), 7-6, 6-2.

Women’s Open Doubles: Sinziana Chis & Monica Neveklovska d. Kelly McNabney & Shiera Stuart, 6-4, 6-2.

Men’s Open Doubles: Nick Coutts & Patrick Flint (Victoria, BC) d. Kris Santoso & Jerry Turek, 7-6 (6), 6-1.

Mixed Open Doubles: Nick Coutts & Monica Neveklovska d. Justin Guay & Anna Miguel (SP): 6-2, 6-1.

Men’s Wheelchair Open Singles:  Steve Welch (US, Southlake, TX) d. Takuya Miki (JP) 6-4, 6-4

Men’s Wheelchair Open Doubles: Philippe Bédard (Montreal, QC) & Steve Welch (US, Southlake, TX) d. Anthony Anderson (US) & Jon Rydberg (US, Oakdale, MN) , 4-6, 6-3, 6-4

That’s it from the Stanley Park Open. Our 17 tennis courts in the park, off English Bay, have been returned to one and all until next July.
